My Morning Routine; What I Do and Why

Now that I work from home, I am not rushing out the door with barely any time to put mascara on. It's refreshing to have the time I need to start my day. While I understand not everyone has the luxury of working from home, you can still implement a morning routine to start your day on the right foot! I'll share mine, then we can talk about yours! 


1. Texts, emails, and Facebook

Currently, Ross is usually leaving for work when I am waking up. I first spend about 10 minutes on my phone going through emails I received overnight and clearing out my Facebook notifications. Now, I know checking your phone right away in the morning is technically frowned upon, but it works for me. I prefer to get those notifications out of the way before I get to my desk where I will get distracted. 


2. Wash my face

Within the past few months, I have finally nailed down a perfect skincare routine. First I use Glo Therapeutics Purifying Gel Cleanser that my esthetician recommended to me. It has Salicylic Acid in it, which is known to aid in collagen production, open pores, and increase cell turnover. Next, I spritz on my Orange Blossom Water Toner, I love this stuff! Then I apply sunscreen and moisturizer. It is so important to wear sunscreen every single day to prevent aging. If you aren't already wearing sunscreen on a daily basis, start now! I use Neutrogena's Clear Face Sunscreen, which is SPF 55. Technically, you only need to wear SPF 30 every day, but this is just the one I am currently using.


3. Make the bed

I rarely made my bed growing up, but now it's an important and regular part of my day. It takes less than two minutes, and it makes a big impact on my day. It's the first thing I technically accomplish in the day, and it also means that I won't be getting back in bed (which of course we all want to do sometimes). 


4. Vitamins

I'm super big on taking vitamins every day. I take a multi-vitamin to give my body what it needs, fish oil to get Omega-3, and a probiotic to keep my digestive system healthy. I will switch to a different brand of probiotic every time the bottle runs out though to constantly introduce my body to new healthy bacteria. I do feel like taking vitamins on a daily basis helps me stay healthy - I'm almost never sick. 


5. Lemon water

Hot lemon water has so many benefits, especially when drank first thing in the morning. I heat water up in a kettle, which takes just a few minutes, and then I add 1 drop of doTERRA's lemon essential oil, a squeeze of a lemon, and VedaPure collagen powder. If you aren't already taking a collagen supplement, you should you start now. Adding more collagen in your diet gives you smoother skin (goodbye acne scars!), improved joints, and fewer wrinkles. The best part is that the powder is tasteless and odorless, so mixing it with the lemon water for consumption is super easy. 


6. Goals

The first thing I do when I sit down at my desk is whip out my goal notebook. I have a dedicated notebook for my goals, and I write the same goals down every morning. Doing this keeps them fresh in my mind, which in turn makes me more likely to achieve them. Researchers have actually studied millionaires and billionaires, and they have found that most millionaires looked at their goals once a day, whereas billionaires looked at their goals twice a day. Doesn't hurt, right?


Always improving

In the next few months I'd also like to incorporate a daily workout and yoga into my morning routine. I also think adding some mindfulness or meditation to my daily routine would be helpful for my overall well-being. What does your morning routine look like?
