DIY Paint Swatch Welcome Sign
Aside from great food and tasty drinks, every housewarming party needs at least a few decorations to go with the theme! I scoured Pinterest (of course) and absolutely loved this idea! There were several tutorials to choose from, and everyone does it a little differently based on what supplies they have at hand. For this tutorial you will need:
- 7 paint swatches - I found paint swatches that had three colors on each page and were displayed vertically. I also chose to make a rainbow and got on of each color, but you could do all blues, reds and yellows, or any other combination!
- A permanent marker or adhesive lettering - I didn't think about this ahead of time so I just wrote on it with a marker. It luckily turned out pretty good!
- 3 feet of ribbon, twine, string, etc.
- Hole Punch
Step 1: Letters
This is where you'll use your permanent marker or adhesive lettering. Write one letter on the center color of each swatch. Make sure you think about if you want all uppercase or lowercase letters before you start writing. I chose all uppercase!
Step 2: Hole Punch
Gather 2-4 of your paint swatches at a time and grab your hole punch. I angled the corner of my stack straight back into one of the punchers in my three hole punch. Then do the other side (you'll want a hole on each side of the top of the swatch). Continue to do this until you have two holes on each swatch.
Step 3: Ribbon
Next, loop your selected ribbon through the holes! Start at one end and put it through the front of the hole. You'll want the majority of the ribbon to be on the back of the swatches. The picture on the left is a close-up of what it will look like once it's pulled through. The picture on the right is what the back of your swatches should look like. I did end up taping my ribbon to the back of the swatch for extra stability and to help keep the ribbon in place. I also taped both outside corners.
I left about 10 inches or so of ribbon on each side to make the curls. To make curls with ribbon open your scissors, place the ribbon between the scissors blade and your thumb, and pull the scissors and your thumb down the ribbon. If that doesn't make sense, here's a video tutorial.
